We all know it, Hockey is expensive. Not only that but it also takes a great amount of research and time to find the right gear for your kids. But as always, we got out covered!
So strap on your skates and earn up to 15% back on your kids' training and gear purchases.
Our list of course starts with the most essential part of hockey, skates! As you already know, it’s important to spend time figuring out which ice hockey skates have the best fit for your kids. It varies depending on foot type, level of competition and intended use of the skates!
Popular brands: Bauer, CCM
The first thing you always want to make sure of is that your kids are safe and protected! That is what shoulder pads are for. Finding the right size is easy but you have to make sure that you have found the right fit in order to protect the upper body (shoulders, collarbone, upper chest, back, upper arms) correctly. Consequently, you want to make sure to check the fit before the beginning of the season because they might not fit anymore! If you happen to be shopping online, make sure to check the sizing guides and take measurements as brands tend to size differently.
Let’s be real, your kids are going to fall from time to time (often for beginners) and for that same reason, hockey pants should be an investment piece. You don’t necessarily have to go for the high-end option, but make sure to settle for a pair that offers the right amount of padding and, tailbone and hip protection.
The stick is probably the most personal item on this list as it takes years of experience to get a better sense of what stick will work for you depending on what type of player you are. There are some things to consider in order to pick to right one: the material (wood, composite or two-piece), the handedness, the size, the flex, the curve and the lie.
Popular brands: Bauer, CCM, Warrior
To protect their hands from stick, pucks, skates and any other adventures they’ll encounter on ice. Again, you don’t need to break the bank by choosing the most important option but you should consider options that allow them to have the best mobility/sensitivity/protection combo. To find the perfect pair you should consider the sizing, the fit (tapered, traditional or anatomical), the padding and the material.
Popular Brands: Warrior, Bauer, CCM
To avoid concussions and other injuries, you want to protect their heads with a helmet! You could either go for a EPP (expanded polypropylene) helmet that are more sophisticated and expensive or for a VN (dial-density vinyl nitrile) that are more affordable.
Popular brands: Bauer, Reebok, CCM & Easton.
Another thing you need to invest in order to avoid visits to the dentist is a good mouthguard. There are a few things to take into consideration when purchasing a mouthguard: Is it comfortable? Does it fit your kids mouth properly? Does it offer enough protection? Are the kids abe to talk/breathe properly?
Popular Brands: Under Armour, CCM, Shock Doctor
Last but not least, make sure to pick a bag that will be practical enough to carry all the gear. One of our favorite options is from Under Armour as we love a good combo of design/great features!
