Christina's simple message helped the team earn over $2,000

The OPDL is a soccer league filled with some of the most talented players in the province – but it takes a lot of support to make this level of play possible. Behind every great team, there is a great team of parents.

“There is a team of coaches who train the boys,” said parent Christina Jeffery. “We then have a group of very supportive parents to help the boys and coaches achieve their goals."

Christina is the lead parent for the Boys U13 fundraising committee – she and the other parents worked together to hit their goal of $2,000 raised, which went towards extra player tournaments. When you take a closer look, the teamwork that is involved to raise funds off the field looks a lot like the teamwork that happens on the field.

“I love working with the team on these fundraising initiatives because it brings the boys together to achieve a common goal,” said Christina. “FlipGive was a fantastic concept that has been the main source of fundraising for us.”

The $2,000 Tip – Knowledge is Power

Christina took the time to share some of her FlipGive strategy for other teams to benefit, and what it really came down to was communication.

“Knowledge is power! As soon as the team and parents understood how FlipGive worked they were all over it,” said Christina. However, there was a catch: “…But it took a lot of communication on my part to get their attention and help them understand that we really don’t have to ‘sell anything’ to raise money.”

By showing her fellow parents that the participating retailers were ones they used already, it finally clicked that they weren’t being mobilised as a sales team. Then it was just a matter of widening the circle before key shopping seasons hit.

“The more people you invite to the page in your circle of family and friends the better,” said Christina. “Timing this around seasons or holidays as Christmas, birthdays and other celebrations was key to our success.”
